Heather practices in the areas of divorce and parental rights and responsibilities matters; grandparents’ rights actions; complaints for protection from abuse and harassment; criminal defense; personal injury; and represents litigants in administrative hearings against the Department of Health and Human Services. Heather is a rostered guardian ad litem, representing the best interest of children in family matters and is a guardian and conservator in probate matters for persons deemed unable to manage their own financial affairs and well being. Super Lawyers of New England named Heather a Rising Star for 2012 and she is listed in the National Trial Lawyers, Top 40 over 40.
Heather serves on the Supreme Judicial Court Advisory Committee on the Rules of Evidence, is a board member of the Maine Associate of Criminal Defense Lawyers (MACDL) and a founding member of the American Academy for Certified Financial Litigators (AACFL) in Maine. Heather also is a board member of Boys to Men, which is an organization dedicated to ending interpersonal violence by providing programing for parents, teachers, coaches, boys and girls in local communities, hospitals and schools.
Heather is dedicated to pro bono work and recognized by the Katahdin Counsel, which was created by the Maine Supreme Judicial Court to honor lawyers who contribute 50 or more hours of pro bono work per year to the legal community. She volunteers for the Immigration Legal Advocacy Project and at the Court House Assistance Program. Heather helped establish and create training materials for the Represented Protection from Abuse Project; a project designed to represent unrepresented parties (defendants and plaintiffs) of limited financial means in protection from abuse hearings.
